These are just some of the many reasons to join with other talented ringers in Central Illinois’ two community handbell ensembles:

Bells In Motion
is an advanced-level 14-ringer ensemble that plays regular concerts and tours on a 7-octave set of handbells and 6 octaves of handchimes.  Music ranges from ‘Blue Rondo a la Turk’ to ‘Tempest’ and ‘Everlasting Light’.  From level 3 to level 6, this group learns several new concerts each year and has produced 2 very successful professional recordings.  Bells In Motion is considered one of the top handbell groups in the country.

"A very professional, very exciting group of performers that have always maintained the highest standard of musicianship. They have achieved a well-deserved reputation for exploring what handbells can do in jazz and pop music. The spirit of the group is enthusiastic and energetic. I have no doubt Bells in Motion will continue to excite audiences and influence the handbell world for a long time to come."

- Composer Kevin McChesney

Prairie Bells
is an intermediate-level group that allows experienced ringers a chance to ring more difficult music and to learn and practice more advanced techniques.  This ensemble appeals to those ringers with several years of experience but needing knowledge or practice to learn more advanced ringing styles.  The group works on techniques each rehearsal and reads through a wide variety of level 2, 3, and 4 music.  They also learn more difficult music to perform in concert.

Many of our members go on to become a Bells In Motion member when they feel comfortable auditioning for that group.  But Prairie Bells requires no audition and meets every other Sunday for 90 minutes.  By alternating rehearsals between Decatur and Springfield, the group maintains a significant presence in each community.
